you know what to
bring on an
African safari
in Kenya. Once
you are on your
way, it’s hard
to go shopping.
The few shops
present in the
Kenyan national
parks only sell
souvenirs.
Besides, they
are relatively
expensive. Below
we have listed a
basic guideline
of what you will
REALLY need when
going on to
safari in Kenya
Tanzania or
Uganda
General Safari
Packing List:
Clothing

Lightweight
cotton
clothing for
protection
from the sun
and the heat
during the
day
- Sweater
or jacket
for cold
temperatures
experienced
at night and
early
- Hat and
sunglasses
to protect
against
sunstrokes
- Bathing
suit (those
staying in
lodge/hotel
with a
swimming
pool & would
want to
swim)
- Socks
and Sandals
for wear
during
safari

Lightweight
hiking shoes
if you will
be doing
walking or
hiking
safaris
- One nice
pair of
shoes
- Short
pants
- Reading
glasses (if
you wear
contacts
bring
glasses as
it can be
very dusty
- Enough
clothing for
the entire
safari as
you may not
have them
washed (most
lodges do
offer
laundry
service)
Personal
Items
- Sleeping
bag (if on a
camping
safari)

Sunscreen /
Sun block
and Lip sun

lens and

cards
and enough
batteries, a
pair may
last only a
day

vehicles

normally
have 1~2
binoculars)
- Locks
for baggage

Travelers
checks or
currency
- Wildlife
guide books
- Small
backpack and
Money belt
Zanzibar or
Mombasa Beach
Holiday and
Safari
If going to
Zanzibar,
Mombasa or Lamu
(East Africa
beach towns),
please be
advised that
those two places
are of Muslim
majority, and
long dresses are
strongly
recommended. Try
to avoid clothes
that show much
of your bodies,
or “skin-tight"
clothes unless
you are at the
beaches. Muslims
are more often
offended by
seeing skimpy
dressing.
